extrabet is part of the IG group of companies.
The group was founded in 1974 and now employs over 800 staff around the globe. IG Group launched extrabet.com in March 2006 as a sister site to its spread-betting offering. Originally it started out as a unique fixed-odds site, where customers could not only place bets in the normal fashion, but also effectively close out for a profit if the bet happened to be going well. However, in March 2009, extrabet.com relaunched as the first betting platform in the world to offer sports spread betting, sports and financial fixed-odds, sports and financial binary betting and a casino all under a single account.
As well as extrabet.com, the group includesIG Index, which offers financial spread betting and IG Markets which offers CFDs and foreign exchange trading. IG Group companies have over 72,000 clients worldwide making over 1 million transactions a month, over 90% of them online.
